Lauren Parker is a Namba-based artist whose interest lies in images captured with a deliberate female gaze, exploring the intimacy of gesture and the poetry of space.

Her focus on youthhood images seeks to reveal the complexity of children, not yet in the authorship of agency but firm in their defiance and absolute in spirit. In her subjects, she seeks to capture the wistful, the defiant, the playful, and the thoughtful.

Parker and her daughter Juna have both been diagnosed with Autism. She left firm employment to homeschool her daughter upon arrival to the Sunshine Coast over a year ago. She describes her daily labor as often intensive, unpaid, and unthanked. Her photography is an assertion of both herself, her fellow mothers, and the children that form the ranks of society whose days are hard to explain and quantify but exist in their own form of exhausted, intimate magic.
